About This Flower:
Parting is certainly sweet sorrow in the case of the sweet pea. A symbol of departure and adieu to the Victorians, the sweet pea perhaps earned this honor because of its delicious aroma and charming white, pink and violet blooms, which are so sadly short-lived. Indeed, the sweet pea is fragrant and ever- feminine, whether alone in a vase, or when mingled with other lovelies. This member of the pea family also is a botanic stand out, being one of only a handful of plants that can transform nitrogen from the atmosphere into fertilizer for plants.

Birth Stone: Diamond Diamond

Diamond comes from the Greek word adamas, meaning unconquerable - suggesting the eternity of love. Although thought to always be a a colorless stone, diamonds are occasionally found with a strong, bright color green, red, pink, blue, canary yellow and amber. These fancy colored diamonds are highly-prized.

Discovered about 2,500 years ago in India, the ancients believed they were splinters from stars, crystallized lightening or hardened dewdrops. Most are over 100 million years old, and many are over three billion years old, making diamonds the oldest of all gemstones. They are also the hardest substance known to man, made of carbon that is crystallized deep within the earth.

Diamonds are found in Australia, Russia, Botswana and South Africa.
